If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. (Exodus 15:26, KJV)We at St. Luke's are committed to a healing ministry. Our patron saint is St. Luke, the physician. It is therefore our mission to be a church where all may have peace and rest in Christ. This ministry includes mind, body, and soul. To that end, we have a healing service, or the administration of the Sacrament of Holy Unction, every month on the first Sunday of each month at our 10:00 a.m. Holy Communion service, after the administration of Holy Communion. The intention of the Church through this Sacrament (as well as through the Sacrament of Holy Communion) is the healing of the whole person, including the healing of the body, by the Holy Spirit through the priest's laying hands on you, praying with you, and anointing you with holy oil. Anointing with holy oil is commended and commanded by Holy Scripture (esp. James 5:14-16) and supported by the ancient traditions of the Church. If you have never been to a healing service but are curious, please come. Or if you know someone who is in need of healing, please bring them. We provide visitor booklets to guide you through the entire service. If you feel comfortable, you may come forward to the altar rail for healing. Likewise, if someone is housebound and needs a priest, we provide Visitation of the Sick. On these house calls we will give Holy Eucharist, Healing, and in critical cases, Extreme Unction (Last Rites). It is our goal to provide the peace of God through Christ to all in need. The grace of God is limitless. And all are welcome.
